‘The Invite’ (2026)
Phillips Academy alum Olivia Wilde directs and stars in this darkly funny film that feels more like a stage play. Wilde and Seth Rogen play a couple who should’ve divorced years ago hosting the upstairs neighbors (Edward Norton, Penelope Cruz) for a dinner party that takes a turn. All four stars bring something to the table, but Wilde in particular has never been this good — or this funny.
How to watch: “The Invite” is streaming on HBO Max.
‘Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story’ (2026)
Only one week after directing a Netflix documentary about a beloved comedian (“Norm”), Judd Apatow is back with another doc on a comic’s comic. This time it’s Maria Bamford, the anxious, OCD performer whose stage act is unlike anyone else in comedy. There’s a good reason why she’s Stephen Colbert’s favorite comedian, and why she makes so many who struggle with mental health issues feel seen.
How to watch: “Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story” is streaming on Netflix.
More new movies streaming: “The Bride!” (Prime Video); “Moana” (Disney+); “Super Scam Me” (Hulu)

‘The Dropout’ (2022)
First, you should get off your couch and head to the theaters for “You Can See Everything.” One of the best movies of 2026, the mind-bending documentary is nominally about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, who welcomed comedian Nathan Fielder into her home right before she went to prison in 2023. Without spoiling the film (and the wild places it goes), I’ll just say that watching this 2022 miniseries, which stars Amanda Seyfried as the disgraced tech mogul, is an edifying experience.
How to watch: “The Dropout” is streaming on Hulu.
‘The Lowdown’ Season 2
One of my favorite TV shows of 2025, “The Lowdown” is even better in its second season, thanks to some key new cast members orbiting Lee Raybon (Ethan Hawke), a crusty used bookstore owner in Tulsa who moonlights as an independent reporter (or “truthstorian”). Lee is shown to be more of an unsavory and unreliable protagonist in Season 2, thanks in part to a new love interest (Betty Gilpin) and his long-estranged father (Tommy Lee Jones) entering the fold.
How to watch: “The Lowdown” Season 2 is streaming on Hulu.
‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 3
Kristen Bell’s non-religious podcaster and Adam Brody’s rabbi gone rogue are now living together in Season 3, allowing the interfaith odd couple to enjoy a bit of domestic bliss after all the drama of the first two seasons. But there’s still plenty of intrigue to keep us entertained, including the arrival of an ex, the separation of Sasha (Timothy Simons) and Esther (Jackie Tohn), and a potential new love for Morgan (Justine Lupe).
How to watch: “Nobody Wants This” Season 3 is streaming on Netflix.
More new TV shows streaming: “All The Queen’s Men” Season 5, Part 2 (Paramount+); “Lupin” Part 4 (Netflix); “The Terminal List” Season 2 (Prime Video); “Where’s Wanda?” Season 2 (Apple TV)
